Review: Pine Lake Resort, Carnforth

1484196_10152021994958376_1120245324_n-225x300Ollie and I braved the rainy, dark, miserable motorway traffic on a Friday afternoon and headed for Diamond Resorts, Pine Lake Resort in Carnforth. Situated just off the motorway at Junction 35, it was really easy to find and we checked in around 5.30pm and were handed the keys to Lodge 211 which was to become our home for the weekend.

And what a home! The heating was on and the lighting made the room look and feel incredibly cosy.  It was decked out with every possible appliance including dishwasher, microwave, TV, DVD, washing machine and even Ipod docking stations.  When I walked into the main bedroom, I was delighted! It was like a luxury hotel room with en-suite. The one thing that we were thoroughly thrilled with and I felt was particularly thoughtful was that there were furry and fleecy blankets available in the lounge. The type that you want to wrap yourself up in and relax on the sofa! And that’s exactly what we did for the next hour! The patio window overlooked the lake, but as it was dark, we only knew there was a lake there because we could hear the quacking of ducks!

Feeling quite peckish, we headed for the main building again and Ollie wanted to check out the kiddies indoor play area. There were loads of things for kids to do with a choice of arcade games and they were not at all expensive. We walked past the pool on the way to the restaurant which looked gorgeous and decided to visit the next day.

The choice of food was vast and reasonably priced. You could eat in either the bar area or take a table in the restaurant. Drinks again were reasonably priced and there was entertainment  later  in the evening, but we didn’t stay for that as it was a bit too late for Ollie but we had a lovely meal before we returned to the lodge.

1454969_10152023134048376_62546470_n-225x300I let Ollie open the lounge curtains on Saturday morning and he literally gasped when he saw our view.  We sure did have a view and a half over the lake. We had been informed that breakfast was served from 9.30am till 11.30am which seemed very civilised to me and I thought it rude not to try out a full English which was delicious.

We headed into Morecombe and had a stroll along the beach, which was “bracing”! We then headed over to Arnside, a pretty, small Victorian seaside town and meandered around the delightful shops that were there. We headed back to the lodge as I had a request from my son to “chill out and watch a film”. How could I refuse? We snuggled up under the blankets and did just that letting the ducks and swans on the lake amuse us.

When our tummies started to rumble, we went and had another delicious meal in the restaurant before coming back to watch X-Factor! The first of the Christmas parties was happening in the main building, but again, it was a little late for Ollie.

On Sunday morning, we extended our check-out time till 11am (normal is till 10am, but can be extended on request).  We sadly packed our belongings and with a sad face from a little boy, packed the car and visited Lakeland Wildlife Oasis – a delightful small wildlife park with all sorts of animals from Meerkats and Snow Leopards, to Lemurs and Lizards. When we left there, we reluctantly headed home.

The staff on site were all great, nothing was too much trouble and I was particularly grateful to Angela – the resort manager who when I told her I’d remembered everything for Ollie but forgotten to bring my coat, swiftly produced a coat for me to borrow for the weekend. Talk about being prepared! The whole place had a completely relaxed and comfortable feel about it.

photo-2-225x300In all, we had a smashing and relaxing weekend. We never did get to go to the outdoor play area, the pool or play on the mini-golf, but I’m sure one day we’ll return to this delightful resort.
