Not even a wet, windy, dark night could dampen our spirits as we arrived at the Christmas launch event of Blithbury Reindeer Lodge which is situated just outside Rugeley in Staffordshire. This was not our first visit to this venue. We’ve been to a family fun day in the summer and we went along to the Christmas event last year too. That’s why we were so eager to go along to this evening event. We love this place! I cannot believe that more people are not aware of it. Even people that I know who have lived around these parts for years have not heard of it. We hope that we can help to raise awareness of this amazing place!
On arrival, we entered into a Scandanavian style cabin and were guided through to a barn which was beautifully decorated and we had a warm welcome from everyone we came into contact with, whether they were staff or elves! A roaring log fire greeted us and was the perfect place to sit beside while Mrs Santa read Christmas stories to the children. Ollie was asked by one of the elves if he’d like to write a letter to the big man himself with his present requests which he was then able to post in the letter box which goes to Santa.
Elf School was great, we got to ask the elves lots of questions and made some reindeer food which we have to put out on Christmas Eve so that Santa and the reindeer know where to visit. The elves were very knowledgeable and sang some lovely reindeer songs.
A tour around the farm meant that we actually got to feed the reindeer their favourite food of moss while the staff, who clearly adore these beautiful creatures, told us about the species and how some of the residents had become film stars and will be seen in the film Get Santa which will be in the cinemas any day now. We even got to sit on a sleigh and have our photo taken in a Frozen setting which Ollie thought was really cool!
Then, probably the most exciting part of the evening for Ollie was meeting Santa who was very chatty and spent lots of time talking to him and telling him about his jobs on Christmas Eve and on the lead-up to Christmas. The setting was lovely and there was a large selection of toys to choose from. Ollie chose a teddy that we have called Henry. Then we got to decorate reindeer cakes with Mrs Clause which was rather exciting for the children too.
We bought “Ronnie” home, he is an adorable cuddly reindeer that we fell instantly in love with and the merchandise in the shop really is excellent value. There is also a fab café on site, which sells the most amazing cakes and snacks again, all at really great value.
We are so very lucky that this amazing place is just twenty minutes from where we live! The staff on site were all really lovely and made it a very special evening.
If you’re looking for an extra special treat, you can book up for Christmas breakfast with Santa, this is my next job on the list for today!
